Cappadocia 2-Day Tour from Antalya — Fairy Chimneys & Hot-Air Balloons
Overnight escape to Cappadocia's fairy chimneys, cave hotels and sunrise balloon flight, all from Antalya.
Trade the Mediterranean coast for a Martian landscape of pink tuff pinnacles, painted rock churches and honeycomb valleys carved by hermits a thousand years ago. This two-day break from Antalya packs the very best of Cappadocia into a comfortable, guided round-trip — including the option to add a sunrise hot-air balloon flight, one of the world's great travel experiences. Day one starts with a scenic drive north through the Taurus mountains, with breakfast and lunch stops en route. By early afternoon you're walking through the vast underground city of Derinkuyu, eight levels deep, where entire Byzantine communities once hid from raiders. You continue to Uçhisar Castle for a panoramic first look at the valleys, then check in to a genuine cave hotel in Göreme — not a themed room but a real dwelling cut from soft volcanic rock, with vaulted ceilings and hand-woven kilims. Dinner is an à-la-carte Cappadocian meal (testi kebab, cooked in a sealed clay pot) in a candle-lit cellar restaurant. The optional balloon flight lifts off at first light. You drift silently over Love Valley, Rose Valley and the fairy chimneys of Göreme as the sun turns the stone pink and gold — a 60-minute flight with a champagne toast on landing, operated only by fully certified Turkish Civil Aviation companies. Day two continues with the Göreme Open-Air Museum (UNESCO), where 10th-century Byzantine frescoes still glow inside rock-cut chapels. You explore the Pigeon Valley viewpoint, the three-headed fairy chimneys of Paşabağ, and Avanos, the pottery town on the Red River where a master craftsman shows you the wheel technique passed down for generations. A late lunch and the return drive bring you back to your Antalya hotel around midnight, tired, happy and with a camera full of images no other landscape on Earth could produce.

FAQ
Is the balloon flight guaranteed?+
No — flights are weather-dependent. If the flight is cancelled for wind or visibility you receive a full refund of the balloon portion the same day. The land tour continues regardless.
How much does the balloon flight cost?+
Approximately €180 per adult, €120 per child, booked and paid on tour. All operators we use are certified by Turkish Civil Aviation.
Is the drive really that long?+
It's around 8 hours each way. We use comfortable Mercedes minibuses with air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and regular breaks, and travel outside rush hour.
Are cave hotels comfortable?+
Very. Rooms have en-suite bathrooms, heating, hair dryers, quality bedding and free Wi-Fi. The stone walls keep them cool in summer and warm in winter.
Is it suitable for older travellers?+
Yes for the general tour. The underground city has some low tunnels — an alternative surface walk is available. The balloon basket requires stepping over a 1.2 m rim.
Can you accommodate special diets?+
Yes — please tell us at booking. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options are available for all included meals.

Left Antalya at 6am, arrived Cappadocia by evening. Hotel room was inside an actual cave — kids couldn't believe it. Balloon ride at sunrise is worth every euro. Guide handled everything, we just showed up.
Best excursion we did in a week in Antalya. Great value and easy pickup from our hotel.
Absolutely perfect day — the crew were friendly, the food fresh and the water unreal. Booking was seamless.
