Antalya in Winter: The Underrated Off-Season Guide
July 19, 2026
Antalya doesn't shut down in winter — it becomes a different city. Sunny 15 °C afternoons, half prices, empty ruins and ski slopes 40 km inland.
## Winter weather — the honest numbers
Antalya has the mildest winter of any Turkish city. Average daytime high in January is 15 °C, night lows 6 °C. It rains on 10–12 days a month but usually in short bursts, and the sun still shines 6+ hours a day.
The sea is 17 °C — cold for swimming but perfect for coastal walks. Snow only falls once every 5–7 years in the city itself, but the Taurus mountains 40 km behind Antalya get reliable snow from mid-December to March.
## Why go in winter
1. **Prices drop by 40–60 %.** A 5-star Lara hotel that costs 220 € in July goes for 90 €. Airport transfers, rental cars, restaurants — all cheaper.
2. **You have the ruins to yourself.** Aspendos, Perge and Termessos in summer heat with 200 tour buses feel like a theme park. In January it's you, a guide and cats.
3. **The city breathes.** Kaleiçi is a real neighbourhood again, not an Instagram queue.
4. **Day trips are magical.** [Pamukkale](/tours/pamukkale-hierapolis-day-trip) in fresh snow or [Cappadocia](/tours/cappadocia-2day-tour) at -5 °C with balloons over white valleys — winter is when these places photograph like the postcards.
## Best things to do December–February
**Ski in the morning, swim in the afternoon.** Saklıkent ski resort is 50 km from central Antalya, small (5 lifts) but reliable snow. Rent gear on-site, ski until noon, back on the beach promenade by 15:00.
**Walk every archaeological site.** Cool weather is when Termessos becomes bearable — the 800 m climb to the amphitheatre is brutal in July. Our [Perge-Aspendos-Side tour](/tours/perge-aspendos-side-tour) is at its best in winter.
**Turkish baths and hammams** feel their best when it's 8 °C outside. Book the historical [Sefa Hamamı experience](/tours/traditional-turkish-hammam) in Kaleiçi.
**Winter food.** Try *tandır kebabı*, *kumpir* at Konyaaltı beach front, and hot *salep* (thick milk drink with orchid root) from any Kaleiçi café.
## What you can't (or shouldn't) do
Boat tours don't run — Adrasan and Kekova operators are dry-docked. Rafting is off (river too cold). Paragliding from Babadağ near Fethiye stops. Most beach clubs on Lara are closed.
## Cost of a 5-day winter trip for two
| Item | July | January |
|---|---|---|
| 4-star hotel Lara | 900 € | 380 € |
| Airport transfer | 45 € | 45 € |
| Aspendos + Perge tour | 90 € | 80 € |
| Pamukkale day trip | 130 € | 110 € |
| Dinner Kaleiçi × 5 | 250 € | 200 € |
| **Total** | **1,415 €** | **815 €** |
## Packing list
Layers: t-shirts for midday sun, a warm sweater and light waterproof jacket for evenings and rain showers. Comfortable walking shoes with grip. Swimsuit for hammams and hotel spas. Sunglasses — the low winter sun off wet stone is dazzling.
